Frequently Asked Questions

Good copy starts with good questions.

Here's what clients most commonly ask about working with Edited By

Services & process

  • We offer a full range of copywriting and editorial services including SEO copywriting and content strategy, long-form writing and editorial, press releases, marketing and campaign copy, copy editing and proofing, AI content refining and GEO optimisation, and agency copywriting support. A full overview is on our services page.

  • Fill out the contact form with a brief outline of what you need and we'll take it from there. We'll schedule a discovery call to talk through the project before sending a tailored quote.

  • No two projects are the same so we quote based on scope, deliverables and timeline. We offer both project-based pricing and ongoing retainer arrangements. To get a sense of cost, get in touch with the details of your project and we'll provide a quote.

  • We ask for a small booking fee to secure your place in the schedule. This is deducted from your final invoice, not an additional charge on top of the project fee.

  • All projects include two rounds of revisions. We find this is enough to get the copy exactly right without the process dragging on longer than it needs to.

  • Yes. For clients with ongoing copy needs, a monthly retainer is often more efficient than briefing project by project. Retainers are available across all services. Get in touch to discuss what that could look like for your business.

  • It depends on scope and current scheduling, but most projects are turned around within one to three weeks.

SEO & GEO

  • SEO gets you found in search engine results. GEO gets you cited in AI-generated answers from tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI overviews. Both matter and they work best together. You can read more about how we approach it on our AI Search Visibility & GEO Optimisation page.

  • The way people search has changed. Instead of typing a query into Google and clicking through links, a growing number of people are asking AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI overviews for answers directly. Those systems don't rank pages the way Google does. They pull from content that's structured, specific and authoritative enough to cite. Generative Engine Optimisation, or GEO, is the practice of making your content visible to those systems. Brands that understand this early are building a significant advantage. You can read more about how we approach it on our AI Search Visibility & GEO Optimisation page.

  • Yes, it could be. AI-generated content that's published without significant editing or strategic structuring tends to be generic, lacks specific claims and authority signals, and is increasingly recognisable to both human readers and search systems.

  • Yes. When AI tools cite your content in their answers, they can drive referral traffic to your site. More importantly, they build brand visibility and authority in contexts where traditional search rankings don't apply. This is why GEO is increasingly important alongside conventional SEO strategy.

Industries

  • We have particular depth in beauty, wellness, lifestyle, travel and tourism, hospitality, fashion, and corporate. That said, editorial instinct and copywriting craft transfer across categories and we've written for clients across a wide range of industries.

  • Making complex, technical or potentially dry subjects genuinely engaging to read is an editorial skill, and one we've applied across corporate publications, property, professional services and not-for-profit.

  • Yes. While our primary focus is Australia, we have strong experience across the New Zealand market and work with clients on both sides of the Tasman.

Agency support

  • Yes. We work with creative, content, PR, digital and brand agencies as a trusted copy partner, plugging in quietly and getting on with it.

We're white-label friendly, used to tight turnarounds and experienced in juggling multiple brand voices simultaneously. You can read more on our Agency Copywriting Support page.

  • Yes, without hesitation. Confidentiality is standard on all agency work.

  • Yes. We adapt to your workflows, not the other way around. Whether you brief via Slack, email or a project management tool, we'll work within whatever structure you already have.

Editing & refinement

  • Copywriting is writing created to serve a commercial objective, whether that's driving enquiries, building brand awareness or supporting a campaign. Editorial writing is writing that informs, engages or tells a story, often in a publication or long-form context.

At Edited By, we work across both and frequently combine them, particularly in thought leadership, brand publishing and content strategy. You can read more on our Long-form Copywriting page.

  • Yes. Whether it's a homepage that isn't landing, a blog archive that needs updating or a piece of long-form content that needs restructuring, we can work with what's there rather than starting from scratch. Our Copy Editing & Proofing page covers the full scope of what that involves.

  • It's what we have a reputation for. We immerse ourselves in existing copy, brand guidelines and tone of voice documents before writing or editing a word.
