Long-form copywriting

printing press

These days, a piece of writing that holds someone's attention for more than five minutes is doing something right. Long-form is where brands build genuine authority, founder narratives take shape and stories unfold.

Before the briefs, there were bylines. With roots in PR and media, long-form is the foundation the rest was built on. We know how to open a piece, sustain interest across pages and land it in a way that stays with the reader, even when the subject matter is complex, technical or a little dry on the surface.

What we do

Editorial articles & features

Narrative-led content for brand publications, owned media and external placement. Written with the structure, pacing and editorial judgement shaped by years in media and publishing.

Thought leadership

Position your brand or founder as an authority in their field. We help uncover the perspective or tension worth building around, then craft it into an article worth the reader's time.

Case studies

The proof behind the promise. We interview, research and write case studies that tell the full story and make the case without overstating.

Company & internal publications

From milestone magazines to internal brand storytelling, we write and edit long-form content for internal audiences with the same care we bring to anything customer-facing. Read one example here.

Magazine editing & writing

On a project basis, we work with brands and publishers as editor or lead writer, shaping editorial direction, commissioning and writing to brief at publication level. We also know our way around a pagination.

FAQs

What length counts as long-form?

1

Generally anything above 1,000 words, though that's only a guide. We define long-form as any piece that requires narrative structure, sustained argument or deep research. A 600-word case study can still be long-form in approach, even if not in word count.

Do you handle the research as well as the writing?

Yes, and it's non-negotiable. Regardless of scope, every copywriting brief includes dedicated research time. We interview subject matter experts, review existing material and develop the angle before writing begins.

Can you write in someone else's voice?

3

It's one of the most important parts of the job. For founder thought leadership especially, the piece needs to sound like the person whose name is on it. We immerse ourselves in how they speak, what they believe and how they want to be positioned before a word gets written.

What's the difference between a content writer and an editorial writer?

4

A content writer produces copy to a brief, hitting keywords and word counts. An editorial writer shapes the piece, makes structural decisions, finds the angle and writes with enough craft that the reader forgets they're even reading branded content. The latter is the approach we take at Edited By.
